My first acupuncture experience was definitely a success. I went to Mara (Carlini Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine) after a long day at work. I had neck pain and shoulder pain (working at a computer all day is no good) and slight back pain. Since it was my first session with Mara she took about 10-15 minutes to go over my health history, asked about previous pain problems, etc. Mara is very knowledgeable about the body and the way the body works. Did you know that you have 3 pulse points on each of your wrists that are attached to different organs? I didn’t either, but these are the interesting tidbits you will find out about your body when Mara assesses you. After the question period Mara assessed my neck, shoulders and back. She was able to tell where I had tightness and where she would be placing the needles. I didn’t know what to expect with this process, but honestly it doesn’t hurt at all! I could hardly feel where she was placing the needles, there is a bit of a sensation but it actually feels good. Mara left the needles in for about 10 minutes and I was able to just lay flat and relax. After Mara treated me with Acupuncture she used the Cupping method on my back. Everyone needs to try this! It felt amazing, Mara also informed me that Cupping releases the toxins from your body and also helps with blood flow which can alleviate pain. When my session was over I stood up and moved my body around, my neck and shoulders felt weightless and I didn’t have back pain. I had no idea that I could feel this good, after feeling so bad for most of the day. Needless to say, I will definitely be going back to Mara and I can’t wait to learn more about acupuncture and how the treatments can help my body.

I experienced adhesive capsulitis, otherwise known as a frozen shoulder, for over a year This condition is quite painful and limits your movement greatly. I went through months of physical therapy with NO results. I was absolutely discouraged. I heard about acupuncture being effective and thought I would give it a try. After only the first week, I got a little movement back. Please note, I got no movement back after weeks of physical therapy. After a month, my range of motion was almost 90% restored and the pain was nearly gone. My results cannot be psychosomatic. My shoulder was frozen and I was skeptical that anything could help me. Thank goodness I was wrong.

Even though my outcome wasn't as I planned, Mara never gave up and still helped to refer me to another professional who may be able to help!
