Mara’s Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe
For many, coffee is a daily ritual—a comforting aroma, a warm cup in hand, and that familiar jolt of energy to start the day. But if you've been thinking about switching to matcha green tea, you’re not alone! Whether you're looking for a more balanced energy boost, fewer jitters, or additional health benefits, matcha might just be the perfect alternative.
My favorite thing about Matcha Tea Lattes is that they still have that “daily ritual” feel with the preparation. I feel more like a Zen Buddhist monk on a blissful mountaintop ready to take on the world - opposed to the fast-paced crazy city vibe coffee tends to portray. Matcha Tea a genuine energy that also helps soothe Liver Qi and promote good feelings.
Why Switch from Coffee to Matcha?
☕️ Caffeine Without the Crash
One of the biggest reasons people make the switch is to avoid the coffee crash. Coffee gives a quick spike in energy, but it often leads to a mid-day slump. Matcha, on the other hand, contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm focus and helps release caffeine more slowly and steadily, providing longer-lasting energy without the crash.
💚 More Than Just a Pick-Me-Up
Matcha is packed with antioxidants, particularly EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which supports cell health, metabolism, and overall well-being. Plus, it's rich in chlorophyll, which helps detoxify the body.
🧘♀️ Calm, Focused Energy
Instead of the jittery buzz coffee sometimes brings, matcha supports a calm alertness—making it great for work, meditation, or any time you need to focus.
💧 Less Dehydration
Coffee is a diuretic, which means it can leave you feeling dehydrated. Matcha, while still containing caffeine, is much gentler on the body and keeps you hydrated.
How to Transition from Coffee to Matcha
✅ Start Slow
If you're used to multiple cups of coffee per day, try replacing one of your cups with matcha first. Over time, you can reduce coffee further.
✅ Matcha Lattes for a Smooth Transition
If you love the creamy texture of coffee, making a matcha latte with frothed milk, almond milk (or another dairy-free alternative) can make the switch feel seamless.
✅ Experiment with Preparation
Matcha can be whisked traditionally with hot water or blended into smoothies for a more modern take. Find the method you enjoy most!
✅ Listen to Your Body
It may take a few days to adjust, but many people find that matcha provides a more sustainable energy boost that leaves them feeling better overall.
Caffeine Content Comparison - per 1 cup (8oz) of beverage
Green Tea: 30-50mg has the least caffeine but provides a gentle energy boost due to L-theanine, which promotes calm focus.
Matcha Tea: 60-80mg is more concentrated since you're consuming whole tea leaves in powdered form, resulting in higher caffeine than regular green tea.
Coffee: 95-200mg has the most caffeine, giving a quicker energy spike but may lead to crashes or jitters.
